My First Day in the Dominican Republic
Well after my first 24 hours in the Dominican, I can defiantly say this is an amazing place. The hospitality and love that we have experienced from everyone is amazing. Even though our flight was several hours late arriving, the pastor of the church insisted we go to her house for dinner despite the fact it was close to 1 in the morning. And boy was it worth it! Her family can cook and yall know I like to eat!
This morning we attended church at the Evangelical church of the Dominican. What an amazing service. There were several things that really struck me this morning’s service. The church is located right in the middle of a busy area of the city…. and since there was no A/C, all the windows were open. I couldn’t help but think how cool it was that everyone near by couldn’t help but to hear this vibrant and inspiring service. Which is exactly what any mission trip is about. Getting outside our church walls (and comfort zones) and being the hands and feat of Christ so others can experience his love.
Even though I could not understand most of this mornings service, I smiled to myself when the congregation began to sing holy, holy, holy in Spanish because I realized that we are all brothers and sisters in Christ no mater what language we speak or what denomination our church is or how many worlds away we are from our own church.
